SignalRGB Service Issues

SignalRGB runs a background service (SignalRgbService) that handles device communication and lighting updates. If this service fails to start or is stopped by another process, devices may not light up even when the SignalRGB app is open.

  • SignalRGB opens but devices show no lighting
  • The app shows devices as disconnected even though they are plugged in
  • SignalRGB crashes shortly after launch
  • The app restarts repeatedly without staying open
  1. Press WIN + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Scroll down to find SignalRGB or VortxEngine in the list.
  3. Check the Status column — it should say Running.
  4. If it says Stopped, right-click and select Start.
  5. If it fails to start, note the error message and see the steps below.
  1. In Services, right-click the SignalRGB service.
  2. Select Restart.
  3. Wait 10 seconds and check the Status column again.
  4. Open SignalRGB and check if devices are now detected.

Antivirus software (especially Avast, AVG, and Windows Defender with strict settings) can block the SignalRGB service from running. If the service fails to start:

  1. Check your antivirus quarantine for any SignalRGB files.
  2. Add %localappdata%\VortxEngine\ to your antivirus exclusions.
  3. Restart the service after adding the exclusion.

If the service is missing from the Services list or cannot be repaired by restarting, a clean reinstall restores it:

  1. Uninstall SignalRGB via Settings > Apps in Windows.
  2. Delete the remaining %localappdata%\VortxEngine\ folder.
  3. Download the latest installer from signalrgb.com and run it.
  4. Launch SignalRGB — the service is reinstalled automatically.

Other RGB software can conflict with the SignalRGB service. If you recently installed another RGB application and SignalRGB stopped working, the new software may be blocking device access. See Conflicting Programs for a list of known conflicts and how to resolve them.
