How to Back Up and Restore SignalRGB

Your SignalRGB configurations — layouts, effect settings, presets, and macros — are stored locally. Backing them up before reinstalling or moving to a new PC ensures you don’t lose your work.

  • SignalRGB installed and configured
  • Access to File Explorer
  • A backup destination (external drive, cloud storage, or another folder)

SignalRGB stores user data in the following locations. You need to back up both:

Application data (settings, effects, presets): %localappdata%\VortxEngine

Documents folder (layouts and additional configs): %userprofile%\Documents\WhirlwindFX

To open these paths, press WIN + R, paste the path, and press Enter.

  1. Close SignalRGB completely — right-click the tray icon and select Quit.
  2. Open File Explorer and navigate to %localappdata%\VortxEngine.
  3. Copy the entire VortxEngine folder to your backup destination.
  4. Navigate to %userprofile%\Documents\WhirlwindFX.
  5. Copy the entire WhirlwindFX folder to your backup destination.
  1. Install SignalRGB on the new or reinstalled system and run it once to create the default folder structure, then close it.
  2. Copy your backed-up VortxEngine folder back to %localappdata%\, replacing the newly created one.
  3. Copy your backed-up WhirlwindFX folder back to %userprofile%\Documents\, replacing the newly created one.
  4. Launch SignalRGB — your layouts, effects, and settings should be restored.
